Lotus Cortina MKI Reserved Parking Fridge Magnet
Lotus Cortina MKI 1963 - 1966 Aluminum Parking Fridge Magnet
The Lotus-Cortina, the car sometimes known as 'the original fast Ford', appeared in January 1963. The Lotus - Cortina was the brainchild of the Ford of Britain Public Affairs chief at the time, Walter Hayes. He approached Colin Chapman to help produce a world-beating racing saloon. Production began in February of 1963 and homologation was achieved in September of 1963 despite production not yet having reached the FIA's 1,000 minimum. The car succeeded magnificently in lifting Ford's performance image, with its rapid performance and taut and grippy handling making it a great success on both race tracks and rally courses. It is believed that 2,894 Lotus Cortinas were built when production ended in late 1966. Legendary names who raced the Cortina included Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, Vic Elford, Jack Sears, Sir John Whitmore, and Jacky Ickx. Jim Clark – multiple F1 World Champion and Indy 500 winner, also won the 1964 British Saloon Car Championship. In 1967 a Lotus Cortina Mark II followed, assembled by Ford not Lotus, and therefore not allocated a Lotus type number.
