De Tomaso Mangusta Reserved Parking Only Sign
De Tomaso Mangusta 1967 - 1971 Aluminum Parking Sign
First shown in 1966, the production of Mangusta started the following year. This name is strictly related to that of the contender Ford Cobra, since Mangusta is the only animal feared by cobra. Nevertheless, Alejandro de Tomaso and Carroll Shelby were friends and business is business, so it is also rumored that the first handful of engines for the Mangusta may have come from Shelby. The De Tomaso Mangusta was a true sports car: just 40 inches in height, a mid-engined placement and a brilliant design made the vehicle instantly popular. The Mangusta was replaced by the much cheaper-to-build De Tomaso Pantera in 1971.
