The Mark III, introduced in March 1967, was the first major facelift to the Spitfire. In March 1967 the Spitfire MK3 was introduced, replacing the MK2. The MK3 was the first major facelift to the Spitfire since entering production. In response to the United States government new crash regulations, the front bumper was raised and although much of the bonnet pressing was carried over, the front end looked quite different. The folding soft-top was improved, and the interior was given a wood-veneer dashboard and new seats. The two-seater sports car was named “Spitfire” to commemorate the famous WWII fighter aircraft.
