Both the Oldsmobile Super 88 and the top-of-the-line 98 shared the 303 cubic-inch Rocket V8 engine equipped with a Rochester 4GC four-barrel or Carter WGD four-barrel carburetor, and delivered 160 hp. With the help of the Rocket engine, the Oldsmobile dominated the NASCAR circuit through the 1952 model year, when the Hudson Hornet took the lead. The Oldsmobile was a force on the race track and the showroom, catapulting Oldsmobile to fourth in industry rankings for 1952, a new high for the company.
